2 of our BAYS Travel teams – Needham Rocketeers and Needham Stingrays joined forces ahead of Thanksgiving raising $800 for The Ellie Fund!

Both 5th Grade Girls Travel teams joined efforts and raised $800 for the ‘Pies for Patients’ initiative which provided pies to every Ellie Fund breast cancer patient and their families in MA for Thanksgiving. The original goal was to raise $250 and the teams easily exceeded that goal!! With the extra funds raised, 100% of the proceeds went to providing assistance to breast cancer patients residing in and/or receiving treatment in MA and their families. Before a recent practice, the teams got together to make patient cards, so that each patient would receive a pie and homemade card along with their donated Thanksgiving meals!

The teams were also recognized for their efforts in the Needham Times (pic below!). Recent years have seen a number of NSC teams getting involved in local charity efforts and we are always very proud and encouraging of teams giving back to the local community.

I am so proud of the collaborative effort from both the 5th grade girls teams! It was a special night and we have got such great feedback from both parents and players sharing that it was a great experience for the girls and that community involvement is an important part of kids’ development and making them into kind, compassionate, and giving adults.
