Mass Tournament of Champions (MTOC) & Division 1 BAYS Champions Spring 2019

This past Sunday our GU14 united advanced to the semi-finals of the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions and earned themselves a chance to write a story book ending to their time with NSC. United had no subs and were set to play two 60 minute games (if they could advance past the semi-final) to make matters worse, United played with 10 players for about 15 minutes during the semis, as they had a player experience an exercise related asthma attack.

Making it even more exciting and dramatic, these 11 girls dug so deep and played some smart situational soccer earning them the result needed in order to advance to the final later that day!  As Head Coach Jimmy McShane put it “their willingness to work hard for each other, their mental toughness and refusal to quit was truly inspiring.”

With just a couple hours between games, the United 11 (pictured below) had to lace them back up quickly as they were set to take on Andover in the Final at 1pm. Exhausted and running on empty the girls again found the strength needed to pull out a thrilling 1-0 victory and State Championship!

For the year, Needham United finished 33 wins 0 losses and 3 ties.  For the Spring, United didn’t lose or tie going 17-0 in regular season and playoffs.  United also won MTOC in 2017 Division 1 Grade 6 championship. The girls dedication and hard work since 3rd grade when United first formed allowed them to finish at the top of BAYS many seasons. Since third grade, United played in 38 tournament games losing only one of those games.  “It is all a simple result of their technical development, commitment to practice and a team first attitude that everyone adopted from the moment they first started together.”

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF NEEDHAM UNITED ON AN AMAZING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RUN!!
