Memorial Day weekend saw a number of NSC teams competing both in our very own Needham Memorial Day Tournament, as well as a number of others, with several success stories over the weekend!
Congratulations to Needham Thunder (BU16) (pictured above), coached by Lee Popper, who finished as champions in the NMDT BU17 Bunker Hill Division. Winning all their games, and conceding just 1 goal all weekend. Beating Mass City FC (1-0), Central Maine United (4-0) and Addison United (3-0) in the group stage, before a 6-0 win in the semi vs Footskills FSC Pumas, and 3-1 final victory over Revolution United.
Special mentions for Needham Force (U12), coached by Bill Fidurko, who made it through to plays offs on Monday in the BU13 Quincy Market Division, with 2 wins and a tie, before falling at the semi final stage in a 3-0 defeat to Nantucket GR7.
Needham Jr. Rockets (pictured below) amassed an impressive 21 goals in 4 games in the Gu11 Quincy Market Division, eventually being edged out in a 5-4 thriller in the semi final by Nordic.
Elsewhere, there was success for NSC in the Framingham Memorial Day Tournament. Coached by Tim Dasey, Needham Rebels (pictured below), won the GU14 Navy Division, without conceding a single goal! They had back to back 5-0 wins over hosts Framingham United and Portsmouth YSA, followed by a 3-0 win over Natick. In the semi final they faced an ‘All Needham’ tie playing against Needham Fury (coached by Craig Palli), who advanced after 2 5-0 wins of their own and a 1-1 tie. Rebels came out on top with a 2-0 win to make the final. In the final itself, the Rebels strong defense proved crucial with a 1-0 win over Wellesley to take home the 1st place trophies!
On the boys side at Framingham, Needham Blue Fury (BU12) also had a great weekend, ultimately falling in the final against hosts Framingham, to take the runners up spot, following wins over Natick, Hopkinton and Sudbury in the group stage.
