Futsal Academy BAYS Invitational – Session 2
Players Currently On BAYS Travel Teams (3rd-8th Grade) or Otherwise Invited By NSC
Player MUST be currently registered with a Needham Travel Team (Grade 3-8) or be invited by the club in order to sign up for this program!
Please be sure to register for the correct winter futsal program for your child! Selecting the incorrect program or age group may lead to your child being waitlisted.
ALL Winter programs run between January – March each year with multiple sessions for each age group.
Session 2 Winter 2024-2025 Registration Opens 12pm Jan. 3rd 2025*
*Given the overwhelming popularity of some age groups in our Winter programs -for session 2 we will be trialing a “lottery” style system for admitting players into the program. When registration opens on Friday 1/3, players will have through the weekend (through Sun. 1/5) to register for an equal shot of getting a spot in the program.
On Monday 1/6 we will then draw names in any groups that are oversubscribed before providing acceptances/waitlist updates. Players registered after this drawing will be first come first served for admittance to the program.

The BAYS Invitational offers boys and girls, grade 3 – 6 from our BAYS Travel Teams, the opportunity to receive supplemental training from the New England Revolution Academy coaching staff over the course of the winter months (January – March). Intended for our more committed, focused and passionate players this unique experience will inspire the players to improve their skills, creativity and decision making by utilizing a technical, tactical, physical and mental training model approach.
While this program is intended for our BAY players, its benefits go well beyond this group. Our professional coaching staff, led by our Director of Coaching Matt Murray, will be given the opportunity to identify players from our open session and invite them to participate in these new invitational sessions!
This advanced program provides our Professional Coaching Staff the opportunity to create a more controlled environment to better challenge and develop our kids in a professional and fun atmosphere with the ultimate goal of preparing players for their spring season & beyond!

Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played all across the world. It is a 5v5 small-sided game played on a hard surface, basketball sized court with a smaller, low bounce ball. Futsal is played with touchline boundaries and without walls.
Futsal places a large emphasis on technical skill in high pressure situations (tight spaces) which translates great to the outdoor game. The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin-point passing!
Futsal is played in all the continents of the world by over 100 countries with over 12 million players. Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka and Ronaldinho grew up playing the game and credit futsal with helping to develop their skills on the soccer field.

The top priority of our Futsal Academy is to motivate players in an environment that is conducive to learning. The more pleasure kids derive from their participation, the more they wish to play and practice on their own. While their instinct to play is natural, their affection and appreciation for soccer must be cultivated. Futsal is the foundation to such goals because it:
- Allows players to frequently touch the ball.
- Presents many opportunities to score goals.
- Encourages regaining possession of the ball as a productive, fun and rewarding part of the game where every time you win the ball, you have an immediate opportunity to score!
- Maximizes active participation and minimizes inactivity and boredom.
- Reflects the philosophy of player development expressed not only in our NSC player development philosophies but also state and national coaching schools!
- Eliminates complicated rules such as off-sides that may hinder youngsters from “playing”.

Simply put the different Tiers to our Futsal Academy indicate the different programs offered at our 3rd – 6th Grade age groups. Due to the increasing popularity of our Futsal Academy over the past 2 years (since our partnership with the Revolution Academy began) we have been in desperate need of more time and gym space at each of these age groups. Taking into account the feedback from both our members as well as coaches running these Futsal sessions, we saw an opportunity to address 2 major issues with our Futsal Program (wide range of abilities at sessions & large amount of kids stuck on waitlists).
Our professional coaches will create an atmosphere that will very much allow for the game to be the teacher. In order to foster an environment conducive to learning as described above, players will be encouraged to play with freedom, creativity & imagination. Our ultimate goal is to allow the players to have fun with the game and to help cultivate a passion and love for the beautiful game itself!
As a result NSC experimented at the end of the winter 2019 Season with a “BAYS Invitational Futsal Session” aimed at current players on our BAYS Travel Teams. This new program would run in addition to our current “Futsal Academy Open Session” which is open to all levels, abilities & whose majority consist of current NSCCL (in-town) players.
