9/27/19 Update

As of Monday 9/30, all practices must be concluded by 6.15pm.

9/11/19 Update

Last night, NSC was informed by the town of Needham of aerial spraying that is set to occur this week in Middlesex, Norfolk and Worcester Counties as part of mosquito/EEE control efforts by the Commonwealth of MA.  The spraying was set to begin last night but was limited due to wind/weather conditions.  Needham is listed as partially in the spray zone.  As a result of the scheduled spraying, NSC has closed the following fields tonight, September 11, due to their proximity to the planned spray area:  Claxton, Walker-Gordon, Newman and High Rock.  All updates to the status of these and any NSC fields can be found at the NSC website.

In addition to these field closings, NSC is asking that all coaches end their scheduled practices at 7pm.  Though the town of Needham continues to be considered low risk, the 7pm stoppage time is consistent with the guidance provided by the Commonwealth of MA for the coming week.  However, NSC continues to encourage all families to make their own decisions about whether or not to send players to planned soccer activities.  Please communicate directly with your son or daughter’s coach.
NSC continues to work with town of Needham and Needham HS Athletics to begin soccer activities earlier during the weekdays.  NSC has also been in regular contact with soccer organizations from surrounding area towns to make sure we are acting in a consistent, responsible manner.  We anticipate more changes to program schedules in the coming weeks and appreciate your patience and understanding while we respond to the challenges that accompany this situation.

Original Message:

The Needham Soccer Club (NSC) has received inquiries about Eastern Equine
Encephalitis (EEE). We appreciate your concern and wanted to share how we are
monitoring the impact of EEE on Needham Soccer club activities.

As you may know, each town in Massachusetts has received a EEE risk assessment.
Currently, Needham has an EEE risk level of “low.” NSC encourages our families to
stay safe and follow these EEE Prevention Steps. NSC will continue to monitor and
follow Needham Department of Public Health guidance.

NSC practice and game schedules remain unchanged at this time. We encourage each
family to make their own choice about their child’s participation in NSC soccer activities.
Please communicate directly with your child’s coach. In the meantime, NSC will be
looking into what, if any, field options are available that allow for soccer activities to
begin earlier Monday – Friday.
