Become A Coach

Fall 2021 – Spring 2022 Coach Registration: OPEN

Travel Team Coach Applicant Registration Deadline: May 17th

Thank you for your interest in coaching or volunteering with Needham Soccer Club. All our teams are volunteer coached and we are always in need of enthusiastic Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and volunteers.

No prior soccer experience is necessary, just enthusiasm, and completion of mandatory registration requirements.

Head coaches must be 18+ but we do offer volunteer opportunities for 7th Grade+ through our TOPSoccer and Mentor programs – Click here for more info

ALL adult coaches/volunteers (18+) are required to be registered with the club AND be in compliance with Safesport requirements: Head Coaches, assistants, or other ‘helpers’ MUST be registered BEFORE they can work with NSC players.

Register On Gotsport

GotSport is our club registration platform and is used for all club registrations and roster building/management. All coaches and assistant coaches must be registered on this platform in order to be assigned to and communicate with their team. Coaches are required to register separately for each individual Fall and Spring season.

As of Fall 2020, all our registrations will transition to the new and improved GotSport platform. Previous accounts will not work on the new platform, and all registrants will need to create a new account. The new account should then be used for all future registrations.

SafeSport Compliance

In 2017, congress passed the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act. As a result, US Soccer (and MA Youth Soccer) revised the requirements for all adults volunteers interacting with young athletes.

NSC coaches, volunteers, board members and staff are all required to meet these requirements.

Safesport comprises of 4 components:

– CORI Check
– National Background Check – includes State and National Sex Offender searches
– Abuse Prevention Training
– Concussion Training

Once all completed, coaches receive a printed credential/lanyard from the club that you must have at all practices/games/clinics

Compliance is monitored and administered via the MA Youth Soccer Connect platform, separate from your GotSport registration

Below outlines what is required for both new coaches, and returning coaches for the Fall 2020 – Spring 2021 year.

NO COACH IS PERMITTED TO STEP ON THE FIELD WITH NSC PLAYERS WITHOUT COMPLETING ALL REQUIREMENTS & RECEIVING YOUR CREDENTIALS FROM THE CLUB

Who must complete the Adult Registration Requirements?

  • ALL Head Coaches and Assistant coaches, or anyone that wishes to help with your team over the course of the season. A parent is not permitted to simply jump in to help out with a practice without first undergoing all of the below steps and receiving their credentials from the club.
  • Covid Coordinator – For the Fall season, each team will be required to have a “Covid Coordinator”. Their main role will be to track attendance at practices/games to enable contact tracing should it be required. This can be the coach/asst. coach. However if you recruit another parent they must also complete adult registration requirements.
  • All other adult volunteers/board members/staff

What does the Fall 2020 – Spring 2021 MA Youth Soccer Adult Registration Involve?

What do you need to do?

  1. CLICK HERE – to register on the MA Youth Soccer Fall 2020 – Spring 2021 Adult Registration Platform. You receive an email from Mass Youth Soccer once complete. This registration will trigger your CORI/Background checks automatically (or if you completed in the last couple of years your prior year should still be valid upon this registration).
  • Coaches who have completed previously – use the same login details and your information, certificates, CORI status, etc will have been migrated. You will be required to complete a short refresher version of the SafeSport course (approx. 25 minutes) to complete, depending on when you took the online trainings last.
  • New coaches will need to create an account. YOU MUST USE YOUR FULL LEGAL NAME and complete all trainings. These take a bit of time the first time you do them, but in future years will be short refresher courses.
  1. Once registered – log back in to your adult registration account on this link – CLICK HERE
  1. Upload a suitable photo if you do not have one already – clear headshot, no sunglasses, hats, or other people in the picture.
  1. Within your account, under “Certificates” you will find instruction on how to access the SafeSport and CDC Concussion Trainings, and any refreshers as needed. Returning coaches that have completed previously, you will see the status of your trainings and anything you need to complete. New coaches, you will definitely need to complete both trainings.
  • SafeSport – when you are redirected to SafeSport be sure to use the same name and email address for your SafeSport account. This will ensure your completed certificate is automatically reflected in your adult registration profile.
  • CDC Concussion Training – You will need to save your certificate and upload it to your adult registration profile
  1. Only once all steps are completed, we are able to print and supply coaches with their credentials/lanyard for the 2020-21 year. Coaches cannot work with a team until they have their lanyard, this includes and assistants, or helpers. Likewise, BAYS Travel Coaches cannot be added to an official roster and be on a sideline without completing all steps.

Lanyards will be disbursed along with uniform for your teams in early September. In lieu of in person coaches meetings this season, we will be holding a uniform disbursement day, likely at Defazio in early September.
