In an attempt to deliver on our mission of creating a player centric environment, our NSC Champions League players will get the opportunity to recognize and be recognized by their teammates and peers in the form of a Champions League All-Star Game this Spring!
This May, NSCCL Coaches will turn to their players to ask them who they feel is most deserving of representing their team at the end of the spring season. Players will get the opportunity to speak to their coaches in private to cast their votes for players in each grade on their team. Coaches will tally the votes and submit the team’s selections to the Club so that each player can participate in their respective game on the morning of Sunday June 2nd!
The idea to implement an All-Star game this spring came from a few different places as the clubs Director of Coaching points out. “What I love about the idea of the NSCCL All-Star Game is how it serves multiple different needs for the club. For Starters it is without a doubt a special thing for any kid to be recognized as a stand out performer by their peers. So for us, we see it as a great way to deliver on our philosophy of using the game of soccer to help develop our kids for life beyond sports because it’s a great opportunity for players to build confidence in that recognition by their teammates and hopefully that is something that will carry over to life off the field as well.”
But it goes even a bit further as Coach Murray continues. “Also it really gives the players the power to tell us who they think had the best season, best year; right at the same time that we, the adults, are trying to determine which players should be on what team for the following season. It certainly does not solve everything but I am a believer that the players/kids know best and, no matter what level or age, the game is for the players/for our kids. So it becomes an awesome opportunity for us to sit back a little and learn from them.”
Beyond those immediate benefits for the club, we also want to continue our efforts to make the 50th Anniversary season something to remember. So we hope that everyone in the community can come out to show support to their teammates and celebrate their efforts in an environment that is intended to be nothing but fun for everyone! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone out on the fields and will have more information on times & locations of each game coming soon!
