Needham Soccer Club (NSC) is excited to announce, through a pilot program, that it will be expanding its number of BAYS Travel Teams from two teams to three at the U12 age group for the Fall 2019 – Spring 2020 season! In an effort to improve the club’s player development, NSC continues to evaluate the pathway and training opportunities available to its players at the club.
Going forward Needham Soccer Club will see the progression of opportunity continue for their players into 6th grade, as the addition of this 3rd Travel team will open the door to a whole new challenge for a new wave of NSC players.
According to Needham Soccer Club’s Director of coaching Matt Murray, “When you look at our current player development pathway, you see a solid progression of opportunity for our players to see the ‘fruits of their development’ sort of speak. With the introduction of 1, U9 Travel team progressing into 2, U10 Travel teams all playing 7v7 and again into 2, U11 teams that play 9v9. We are giving more and more of our players each year the chance to take the next step with their game and play a higher level of competition through the BAYS League and this expanding of our rosters.”
Since, Coach Matt joined NSC from the Revolution Academy in 2017 he has seen that “we are doing a great job of making the game fun for our players first. This is then creating a large pool of players who are becoming passionate about the sport and their development”.
So what does this mean for the club and our players going forward?
“Well we certainly will have to watch it closely as there is no guarantee.” Responded Coach Murray “However we feel strongly that it will not only benefit the players who end up on this 3rd team but we believe that it will actually create a better, stronger experience for players that will remain in NSCCL as well. A big benefit we have seen from this progression of players moving onto BAYS each season is that it creates opportunity for other players within NSCCL to step into a larger role than they might have otherwise had. I think what it shows, is that we really recognize that with soccer, as with everything in life, kids develop at different rates. As a result they require different environments at different points in time in order for them to feel encouraged to continue on with their development.”
This additional team is certainly a change for Needham Soccer Club that will add to the excitement during our 50th anniversary season that kicks off this spring 2019!
