NSCCL (3rd-6th Grade)

NSC Champions League
(NSCCL) 3rd-6th Grade

The Needham Soccer Club Champions League (NSCCL), is for players of all levels in Grade 3-6 and is designed for players to play recreational soccer and continue their development in a low pressure, fun environment. The focus is on player development and fun. All practices, games and events are ‘in-town’ on Needham fields.

The NSCCL program runs in 2 separate seasons (Fall & Spring) of approximately 8-9 weeks with separate registration for each season for players and coaches.

Structure & Schedule Overview

4 single Gender Divisions:

  • 3rd/4th Grade Girls (rosters of approx. 12-14, 7v7 Games)
  • 3rd/4th Grade Boys (rosters of approx. 12-14, 7v7 Games)
  • 5th/6th Grade Girls (rosters of approx. 12-14, 9v9 Games)
  • 5th/6th Grade Boys (rosters of approx. 14-16, 9v9 Games)

Teams play 1 weekend game each week on Saturdays or Sundays, and have 1 90 minute team practice with their team each week on a weeknight (typically, but not always, 6:00 – 7:30pm).

In addition, each team gets access to 4 Saturday morning skills clinics throughout the season, where players get the opportunity to work with professional coaches from New England Revolution Academy (supported by team volunteer coaches).

Weekend Schedule:
Teams are assigned to specific clinic weekends and time slots, with boys clinic days and girls clinic days.

  • On a boys clinic weekend, the boys teams will attend clinics on Saturday morning in one of 3 separate 1 hour 15 minute time slots between 8am-12.15pm (your team’s specific slot will vary each time). The boys teams will then play their games on Sunday afternoon that week.
  • Meanwhile, the girls do not have a clinic that week and will play their games on the Saturday.
  • Boys and Girls will switch for the following weekend.

Team Placements

Players are placed on a team for each season and assigned a volunteer coach (or coaches).

During registration, there is opportunity to make a friend request that will be reviewed by our program directors, though we are unable to guarantee those requests. Typically teams are built with the aim of having 2-3 players from the same school, but there are no ‘one school’ teams e.g. there is no “Mitchell team”

We are unable to accept requests for a practice day or specific coach (parent coach aside).

Between Fall and Spring, teams typically will stay similar, but there will usually be some reshuffling based on registration numbers, new players and players not returning for Spring, as well as 3rd Grade players that are selected to the Spring Travel team. Returning players are not guaranteed to stay with the same coach/team.

Coaching In NSCCL

  • NSCCL teams are coached by volunteers
  • All parents, regardless of prior soccer experience are encouraged to participate as coaches
  • NSC utilizes professional coaching staff from New England Revolution Academy, including a full time Director of Coaching to support coaches during the season.
  • NSC utilizes and provides coaching resources, including professionally developed age appropriate curriculum of training activities, while following best practice guidelines and policies of US Soccer, MA Youth Soccer and NE Revolution Academy

All coaches and assistants must register with the club and be in compliance with all mandatory SafeSport requirements
