A Coaching Philosophy. What is it? and Why do we need one?
Put simply, it is an attitude held by a coach or club that acts as the Guiding Principles for the training and development of an athlete or team.
A coaching philosophy should give an insight into who you are as a person, a coach and in this case – a Club. Needham Soccer Club strongly encourages our coaches to create their own personal coaching philosophy to distribute to every player and parent of their teams. We do not expect all of our coaches to be robotic in how they follow our club philosophies but encourage and hope that the core values of all of our individual coaches align with the core values displayed in our clubs coaching philosophy above.
The benefits of having a coaching philosophy will be portrayed in the effectiveness of our coaching over the long term. Knowing the way you want your team to carry themselves both on and off the pitch, provides a clearer outlook on how to structure your sessions and the content you want to teach over the course of a season. This provides the advantage of being able to plan the content of your sessions over a season in advance, while allowing for flexibility depending on the imminent needs of your players. As a result, you will have a clearer idea on what goals you want to achieve as individuals and as a team.
